- » Do you provide a fitting service?
Yes. If you are within a 50 mile radius we may be able to fit your gates for you. Prices depend on factors such as number and style of gates and whether the posts are freestanding or against a wall.
Standard price for hanging a pair of gates (on existing posts) is £80 + VAT
Standard price for concreting in 2 posts and hanging pair of gates is £300 + VAT

- » Do you have an environmental policy?
Yes. Softwood is sourced from Sweden where they have a well established sustainable forestry industry. When requested we use locally grown Larch and Douglas Fir but generally speaking home grown softwoods grow too quickly and can have a woolly finish when planed.
Our hardwood gates are made from home grown oak. We do not use tropical hardwoods.

- » What treatment do you recommend?
Tanalised field gates require no further treatment. If however the greenish tint has faded after a few years, you may wish to tidy them up with a coloured wood preservative (Cuprinol, Sadolin, Barretine etc..)
Untreated Redwood gates need prompt treatment otherwise they will soon look tired and blotchy. A solvent based wood preservative is a quick and cheap option. For a more thorough and durable finish however it is recommended that you apply a stabilising product , "Owatrol Seasonite" which controls the movement of moisture in and out of the wood, reducing cupping, cracking and shrinkage. After 6 to 12 months apply a deep penetrating oil, "Owatrol Textrol" which comes in clear, cedar or redwood finish. You will need to reapply with oil twice a year.
There are two choices with Oak; to treat or not to treat. For a natural weathered look, leave your gates to age gracefully to a silvery grey. This will take 2 or 3 years with no effort! Alternatively apply several coats of "Impranol" - a solvent based micro-porous wood preserver to a colour of your choice, or natural Tung Oil to bring out the warmth and colour of the Oak. Both applications require continued maintainance.
